What to expect when you get a new puppy.

Getting a new puppy can be an exciting and fun time.  But before you adopt or purchase a puppy, there are some things that you should consider. A puppy needs an extraordinary amount of care and will need many hours a day for care and training.   This includes mid-day care and middle-of-night care!   If you are away from home a lot, a puppy not may be the best choice at this time.  Perhaps adopting a dog that is already trained might be a better option. 

If you are considering a puppy, please make sure you are aware that:

• Puppies drink water and eat at least 3-4 times a day. so you will need to provide for these feedings on a timely basis. Make sure you are feeding your puppy age-appropriate food (food made especially for puppies).
• Puppies need to use the restroom frequently. Puppies need training and may have multiple accidents (due to being in new surroundings). They may also keep you up a lot during the night.. 
• Puppies are very active and can be destructive, so it’s best to keep them crated when left alone. Training will be needed to teach them how not to be destructive. Providing toys for chewing , may be an option but make sure you are supervising.
• Puppies are not born with manners .  You will need to spend time teaching them how to be socialization skills so they can be a great family member.
