The Girl Scouts of Troop #129064 have been working to earn a Silver Award, the highest award a Cadette can achieve. The girls identified an issue, the growing problem of overcrowded pet shelters with many dogs & cats needing adoption or foster care. They partnered with Happy Faces Pet Ranch to learn more about pet shelters & to volunteer their time. During their visits they walked dogs, monitored “the littles” during play time, helped to groom, cleaned a storage area, & gave dogs lots of attention with petting & playing. The girls are taking a systemic approach for a long term problem. Among their pages you will find information about adopting or fostering dogs, foods & plants that are harmful for dogs, ideas for toys & ways to keep dogs occupied & happy. The girls have also created their own website, Pet Paradize (www.petparadizehouston.org, with some ideas for making toys for pets & a form for volunteering. There is a space on Discord for discussing pet care, pet adoption, & other topics of interest. All of these ideas & approaches are because these Girl Scouts want to make a difference in the lives of dogs (and owners, too), with an ongoing & lasting effect!
